Strict Deadlines: CBSE Directs Schools on Admissions and Subject Change Requests

Strict Deadlines: CBSE Directs Schools on Admissions and Subject Change Requests

CBSE has clarified that no late applications for direct admission or subject change will be accepted after the deadline.

CBSE has officially directed all affiliated schools to strictly follow deadlines for Class 10 and 12 direct admissions as well as subject change applications for the academic year 2025–26.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has once again reminded its schools and stakeholders about the importance of adhering to fixed timelines. According to the Board, these deadlines are not just formalities but essential checkpoints that ensure the smooth planning and execution of examination-related processes. In order to prevent last-minute delays and guarantee equity for students nationwide, CBSE strives to maintain discipline in admissions and subject change approvals.

In order to help parents, educators, and students understand these changes and the importance of rigorous compliance, we at ExploreRealNews have made this update simple.

Why Timelines Matter

Examinations at the national level involve extensive preparation, from registration and question paper distribution to exam center allocations. Postponing requests for admissions or subject modifications disrupts the larger framework. CBSE explained that respecting the deadlines will enable the Board to conduct exams in a more streamlined manner, avoiding confusion or technical glitches that could impact lakhs of students.

Schools have been instructed to carefully follow these cut-off dates for admitting students directly into Class 10 and 12:

  • Admissions deadline: August 31, 2025, is the deadline for all direct admissions.
  • Submission to Regional Office: Schools are required to prepare a tabular report of admitted students (separate for Class 10 and Class 12) along with necessary documents and forward them to the concerned Regional Office by September 2, 2025.
  • Approval by CBSE: Regional Offices must complete the scrutiny and approvals of these cases by September 15, 2025.
  • Special provision for government employees: If a parent working in a government department is transferred after the deadline, the student’s admission can still be considered. However, details of such cases must reach the Regional Office within two days of the admission.

This step ensures that while discipline is maintained in general admissions, flexibility is provided to families of transferable employees.

Subject Change Applications: Strictly Time-Bound

Alongside admissions, subject change requests are also closely monitored. The following guidelines have been requested of schools:

  • Deadline for submission by schools: All subject change requests must be submitted by August 31, 2025.
  • Compilation of cases: Similar to admissions, schools must prepare a class-wise tabular list with supporting documents and submit them to the Regional Office no later than September 2, 2025.
  • Final CBSE clearance: By September 15, 2025, Regional Offices will have done the necessary verification and acceptance of these requests.

CBSE stressed that no subject changes will be entertained after August 31, urging schools to counsel students and parents to make decisions on time.

Expansion of Regional Network

In a significant development, CBSE announced the establishment of four new Regional Offices, set to begin operations from September 1, 2025. This move is expected to ease the workload on existing regional centers and improve accessibility for schools.

New Offices and Parent Regional Offices:

  • New regional office: Lucknow ? Parent Office: Prayagraj
  • New regional office: Gurugram ? Parent Office: Panchkula
  • New regional office: Ranchi ? Parent Office: Patna
  • New regional office: Raipur ? Parent Office: Bhubaneswar

Additionally, CBSE has created three Sub-Regional Offices under the Guwahati Regional Office, located at Agartala, Itanagar, and Gangtok. For the academic year 2025–26, all admission and subject change cases from these sub-regions will continue to be processed by Guwahati Regional Office.

This expansion is a strategic step to make CBSE’s services more efficient and responsive, particularly in states where schools had limited direct access to the Board’s regional authorities.

Implications for Schools and Parents

The new directives from CBSE carry serious implications:

  • Schools must act responsibly: Any delay in forwarding applications could directly affect students.
  • Parents need to be proactive: Whether it’s admission or subject change, waiting until the last moment could result in rejection.
  • Students must plan early: Choosing the right subjects and confirming admissions within time ensures smoother exam registration.

By enforcing strict deadlines, CBSE is clearly sending a message that discipline and timely action are key to maintaining transparency and uniformity.

Final Word

The Board has firmly stated that no direct admissions or subject change cases will be entertained after August 31, 2025. With the examination calendar already packed, late entries or modifications will not be considered. Schools have been urged to guide students and parents well in advance so that no one misses out on crucial opportunities.
